On Tuesday, Iran’s Supreme Leader ayatollah Khamenei has issued a much talked about fatwa saying that that he is a cleric of the highest rank who possesses all the required credentials to hold the position of “velayat-e-faqih” (Supreme Leader). He even claimed that his rule is a direct succession to that of the Prophet and the Shia Imams.

Some interesting comments have been made on this new fatwa. Opposition website Rahe Sabz for instance brought an article of which you can read the English translation here.
