20 May 2010

Two detained student activists, Bahareh Hedayat and Milad Asadi, were handed heavy imprisonment terms by Iranian judiciary yesterday. The Revolutionary Court sentenced Hedayat to nine and a half years in prison, and Asadi to handed seven years, according to Daneshjoo news website.
Bahareh Hedayat, an executive member and spokeswoman for the student organization Tahkim-e Vahdat, received five years imprisonment for “propaganda against the regime and activities against national security”. She was also accused of “insulting the leadership” for which she received two years and “insulting the presidency” which gave her another nine months in prison. For “participation in the June 12 protests in 2006” Hedayat was sentenced to two years suspended sentence which the judge has added to her sentence. Bahareh Hedayat has been in prison since last December in the Oblivion Section of Evin Prison.
Daneshjoo News also reports that the court has sentenced Milad Asadi to five years in prison for “activities against national security and propaganda against the regime.” He received another two years on top of his five years for “insulting the Leadership.” Milad Asadi has been in Evin Prison since last November.
