Mousavi: “Are those in charge really Muslims?”
17 May 2010
Opposition leader Mir-Hossein Mousavi has said that Iran’s Green Movement has its roots in the “religious thinking” of the population and as long as the movement proceeds along this path, people will support it. Kaleme website quotes Mousavi as saying that the reason why people are “receptive” to the Green Movement is that “it matches their religious beliefs.”
The opposition leader thus criticized the government’s confrontation with people in the name of religion: “There must be no actions taken in the name of Islam and religion that may, God forbid, compromise these beliefs and faith.” He also criticized the Islamic Republic prisons, claiming the Prophet Mohammad would never approve of them. “Today people question the methods of these people who are in charge and claim to be Muslims, wondering what they have in common with the behaviour of Fatemeh Zahra (daughter of Prophet Mohammad) who had the title of honesty and avoided any form of lie or straying from the truth?”
